Partnering with Kokada: Redefining Indulgence with Naturally Low Sugar Snacking & Spreads

With 72% of consumers shifting to naturally low sugar options (according to a Mintel 2025 report), Kokada saw an opportunity to serve a growing cohort of customers back in 2020. Jared and Breanna, a husband and wife cofounding team, set out to create a product with their flagship coconut spreads that have few, simple ingredients and no added sugars. The product was an instant hit in their local North Carolina region and was quickly featured on grocery store shelves less than 3 months after entering the market.
Kokada was born out of Breanna’s personal need for an allergen friendly, yet nutritious snack ahead of national team volleyball games for Jamaica. One of her teammates had a severe tree nut allergy, which prevented Breanna from eating her typical pre-game nut butter squeeze pouches. This was the impetus for Breanna to create Kokada in her kitchen, initially for herself and then friends, family and beyond. Breanna and Jared share very similar backgrounds; both playing collegiate sports at Duke University before moving into management consulting. They both earned their MBA degrees from Wharton, where also continued to incubate and build out the foundations for Kokada to scale nationally.
Today, Kokada has blossomed into a nationwide brand after their national launch with Sprouts Farmers Market in 2023. Kokada’s products can now be found on shelves at Whole Foods, Wegmans, Harris Teeter, and many other major retail chains. In 2025, Kokada has continued its focus on building consumer adoption in its current retail partners while also partnering with Costco Northeast & Southeast regions via roadshows. The next few years present huge potential for growth through strategic expansion through distribution, channel, and SKU assortment.
